Volunteering at Caring for Cats: A Love Story

Apr 11, 2025 | News & Updates, Volunteer Stories

Caring for Cats thrives due to the quality of its volunteers. We would like to honor the 128 volunteers who dedicate their time on a regular basis in order to serve the beautiful cats who await their forever homes.

Many of our volunteers have spent over a decade working for these lucky cats. Their duties range from socializing with the cats, cleaning the rooms and replenishing food and water, administering medicine, adopting cats to families, managing the intake and vetting processes, building maintenance, and taking care of the myriad of administrative responsibilities required of a rescue organization. Not to mention fundraising, communications, and giving back to the community.

Some volunteers work one shift a week while others dedicate their time daily, and if you ask them, they wouldn’t have it any other way. We recently asked many of our volunteers why they choose to volunteer at CFC.

Of course, all noted that they love cats and love to spend their time making the lives of the cats better. Their reward is a head butt or a happy purr. Those responsible for the adoption process cited the satisfaction they get when the cat is matched to their new family, knowing that all—both feline and human—are starting a new life of adventure and joy together. Those who coordinate the intake process, medical needs and administrative activities surely feel the great responsibility of their volunteer work but also the great satisfaction of knowing that they are saving the lives of rescued cats and offering them a bright future that they otherwise would never have experienced.

Regardless of the type of activity performed, the underlying motivation of every volunteer is the same: these volunteers are expressing their love language via their acts of service to the kittens and cats who need a good home and to the future families who will be lucky to adopt the special cats.

Every floor mopped is an expression of their love. Every successful adoption is an act of love to the cat and their new family. Every load of laundry completed and intake paperwork processed is an act of love. Every cat surrendered to CFC feels the love of the volunteers as they adjust to their new temporary home. Every volunteer feels the love from the cats that they gladly serve.

Most importantly, the cats are surrounded by love with every bowl of food and water filled, every litter box cleaned, and every cuddle or play session shared. And by extension, every family who adopts a cat from CFC feels the love that started with the volunteers.

Their acts of service spread a bounty of joy to all the people (and pet companions) who have the pleasure to experience the love of a cat adopted from Caring for Cats.

We thank every volunteer for their acts of love, and we give that love right back to them!
