Serena was a beloved 17 year-old elderly lady who had kidney failure, which involved the administration of fluids under the skin several times per week.
Despite heroic efforts to find a foster home or adopter willing and able to give fluids (a 2-person job) to a kitty nearing the end of life, when it was clear that that home wasn’t available, volunteers gave her the love, treatment, and care she needed to live out her days in peace and comfort.
Serena’s Room is a Safe, Quiet Space
“Serena’s Room” is a smaller space than the large multi-cat rooms, because it was originally designed as an adoption room. After Serena’s passing, other special needs kitties like Hunny and Peanut & Morticia have lived in this low-key, quieter room.
A Special Room for Special Cats
The good news is that since those three have now found their permanent homes, it was decided to convert the room to a permanent kitty space. A door with open grating replaced the solid one, a sign was made to dedicate the room to Serena, and a loving memorial shadow box hangs inside to pay tribute to her.
