Some adoptions feel like they were meant to be from the very beginning.

When Zeus and his sister Aphrodite came to Caring for Cats, they were just two playful kittens looking for a family of their own. Their adopters originally planned to bring home only Zeus, but after giving it some thought, they decided Aphrodite should come along too.

That decision turned out to be one of the best they ever made.

Recently, Zeus and Aphrodite celebrated their first birthday, and their family shared an update that made all of us smile.

The family already had a resident cat, Clash, who was nearly eight years old when the kittens arrived. At first, she wasn’t quite sure what to make of the energetic newcomers.

“Let me tell you, it was good to have two kittens to wrestle each other,” their adopter shared. “Clash was not so sure about all that nonsense.”

Having a built-in playmate meant Zeus and Aphrodite could burn off their endless kitten energy together while Clash adjusted at her own pace. Over time, something wonderful happened.

Now, the three cats groom each other, play together, and share their home as one happy family.

In fact, their adopter jokes that the kittens may have taught Clash how to be a cat.

“We’re pretty certain Clash thought she was human,” they said.

Aphrodite, affectionately known as “Dite,” has developed a love for simple toys. Whether it’s a finger trap or a spring toy, she’ll happily chase it all over the house. Zeus, meanwhile, enjoys life’s finer things—a cozy box and a warm place to nap.

His favorite trick?

Finding Dite curled up in the perfect sleeping spot, bathing her until she gets annoyed enough to move, and then claiming the warm spot for himself.

Clash isn’t quite as easy to persuade, but she’ll happily let Zeus snuggle up beside her.

The cats have also become devoted companions to the family’s children.

“They are all such sweeties and they love the kids,” their adopter said. “I think they think of the kids as fellow kittens.”

While caring for three cats can sometimes feel like a full house, their family wouldn’t have it any other way.

“Sometime three seems like a lot, but we couldn’t give up any one of them. It’s three times the joy!”

Stories like Zeus and Aphrodite’s remind us why thoughtful adoption matching matters. Sometimes the perfect fit isn’t just finding the right cat for a family—it’s finding the right companions for each other.
