The Purrfect Fix is the one that makes healthy futures possible.
Spring and summer mean one thing at Caring for Cats: kitten season.
Every year, tiny kittens arrive needing safety, nourishment, veterinary care, and a chance at a healthy future. Before they’re ready to join their forever families, every one of them begins the same journey — receiving vaccinations, wellness exams, microchips, and one of the most important milestones of all: being spayed or neutered.
That’s what The Purrfect Fix is all about.
Spaying and neutering every adoptable cat helps prevent future litters, reduces the number of homeless cats in our community, and ensures adopters can focus on welcoming a new family member home instead of scheduling surgery. During kitten season, these procedures become one of the shelter’s largest and most important veterinary investments.
But getting a cat ready for a forever home doesn’t always end with a spay or neuter. Some cats need treatment for an illness. Others need extra nourishment, ongoing medication, dental care, or time to heal. Some need help learning to trust people again.
The Purrfect Fix is about all of that care.
It’s the work that happens behind the scenes to help each cat become healthy, comfortable, and ready for the home waiting for them.
That’s truly the PURRFECT fix of them all.
Every Bite Was a Victory

When Maple’s litter of kittens arrived, one tiny kitten quickly stood out.
Eggo was the smallest of the group, and while his siblings happily crunched dry food, he simply wouldn’t.
Our volunteers noticed the difference right away.
Rather than hoping he would “grow out of it,” they monitored his weight, shared observations between shifts, and worked closely with our healthcare team. When Eggo still wasn’t eating well, he visited the veterinarian for a thorough examination. His mouth and teeth looked normal. X-rays and bloodwork didn’t reveal an obvious cause.
So instead of giving up, everyone adjusted.
A special feeding plan was created using softened food and carefully supervised meals. Volunteers sat with Eggo while he ate, encouraged him through every feeding, and tracked his progress from shift to shift.

Some days he only managed a few bites.
Other days he finished nearly everything.
Little by little, those updates began to change.
Eventually, one volunteer happily reported that Eggo had “left nothing” in his bowl and joked that he had become “a little piggy.”

Those simple words represented weeks of patience, teamwork, and compassionate care.
Our little Eggo is a happy, affectionate kitten who loves people just as much as he loves snuggling with his sister, Pearl Milling. He still needs a softened diet, but he’s healthy, thriving, and ready for the family who will love him exactly as he is. Learn more about adopting Eggo, or one of his little friends.
Every "Fix" Is Different

Pawl’s story also shows how no two cats follow exactly the same path.
When Pawl came to Caring for Cats through one of our TNR partners, he was already neutered. But being “fixed” was only the beginning. While he was with us, we discovered that Pawl needed specialized veterinary care for a chronic ear condition. He underwent diagnostic testing, received treatment, and continued on medication while our team monitored his progress.
But what Pawl was really known for was being the shelter’s affectionate “coo boy,” with his gentle vocalizations, love of tummy rubs, and habit of curling up with his feline friends whenever he had the chance. As his care continued, staff worked just as hard to find him compatible companions and, ultimately, the right forever family.
That special family finally came along in March, when a nice couple fell in love with Pawl and were ready to continue the care he needed at home. They understood his medical needs and happily welcomed him into their family, where another cuddly feline companion was waiting to meet him.
For Pawl, being “fixed” was only the beginning. He needed medical care, patience, companionship, and a family who understood him. The Purrfect Fix is about all of it — giving cats the care they need to heal, thrive, and find their way home.
The Purrfect Fix Is Just the Beginning
When people hear ‘the Purrfect Fix,’ they often think of a routine procedure. For rescue cats, it’s the beginning of something much bigger because together, we ‘fix’ so much more.
Every cat who comes through Caring for Cats receives individualized care based on their unique needs. For some, that means routine vaccinations, a wellness exam, microchipping, and spay or neuter surgery before they’re ready for adoption.
For others, it means diagnostic testing, medications, special diets, follow-up appointments, or simply extra time and careful observation from volunteers who notice when something isn’t quite right.
Behind every successful adoption is a team of volunteers, foster families, veterinarians, and supporters working together to give each cat the healthiest possible start.
